Overview
Vibrating wire load cells are available in solid and annular styles to monitor compressive loads. Load elements are manufactured from high strength, heat treated and stress relieved steel with precision ground bearing surfaces. Overall machined, high strength combination load plates are recommended to provide a smooth, parallel bearing surface and distribute the load.
Solid style cells incorporate 3 to 6 vibrating wire tension sensing elements mounted parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cell.
Annular cells incorporate 3 to 6 vibrating wire tension sensors, mounted parallel to the longitudinal axis, equidistant around the circumference.
With the multi-sensor configuration, accurate readings are possible under slightly eccentric loading conditions as the sensors are read individually. On multi-strand anchors, it is possible to tension the strands uniformly by monitoring the load on each sensor as appropriate.
The power cable running to the reader may be hardwired to the cell or connected via a metal military-style bayonet connector.
