Description

How it works

The FloraPulse system is a microchip tensiometer (microtensiometer) that is embedded into the tree woody tissue and directly measures the water status, known as water potential. Because the measurement is taken directly inside the water-carrying tissue, readings are very accurate and reliable. You receive daily midday stem water potential readings, along with science-backed irrigation recommendations.

FLORAPULSE Stem Water Potential Sensor to Monitor Tree Water Status Every 20 Minutes
HOW DOES THE FLORAPULSE SENSOR WORK?

The FLORAPULSE stem water potential sensor is a microchip tensiometer (microtensiometer) that is inserted into the sapwood of the tree trunk and provides stem water potential values. The measurement is taken directly in the xylem, providing a highly accurate measure of stem water potential and a reliable and recognized indicator of tree water status.

The microtensiometer is made with a nanoporous silicone membrane that can achieve tension measurements of up to 100 bar (10 MPa). The membrane's pore diameter is approximately 2 nm.

The FLORAPULSE stem water potential sensor is the result of more than 10 years of work and improvement. The system combines physical and chemical barriers to mitigate the plant's response to stem wounding. These improvements allow FLORAPULSE to perform continuous measurements for years with minimal maintenance.

The FLORAPULSE sensor is available as an all-in-one system, or as a digital or analog sensor for integration into other data acquisition systems.
FLORAPULSE SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS

The FLORAPULSE stem water potential sensor has a working range of 0 to -35 bar, a resolution of +/- 0.1 bar, and an accuracy of 5% of the reading.
CONTINUOUS STEM WATER POTENTIAL TIME SERIES EVERY 20 MIN

In the following LINK, you can view a two-year time series of stem water potential measurements, 24/7, in a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard plot in Napa Valley.
INTEGRATION OF THE FLORAPULSE DIGITAL SENSOR (SDI-12) INTO IoT PLATFORMS

The FLORAPULSE stem water potential sensor comes in three versions:

ALL-IN-ONE: An integrated system consisting of two FLORAPULSE sensors connected to a FLORAPULSE data acquisition system. Stem Water Potential values are recorded every 20 minutes and updated in the cloud. Data is accessed through the FLORAPULSE web portal and app. The visualization notebook is customizable and includes direct values and the midday average.
SDI-12 DIGITAL SENSOR: This is the ideal format for integration into IoT sensor platforms for agriculture, as the digital converter directly provides the Stem Water Potential value.
ANALOG SENSOR: This is recommended for replacing the sensor head in the digital version and for repairs. It can also be connected to an external data collection system, but requires compensation and data transformation.

WHICH CROPS HAS FLORAPULSE BEEN VALIDATED ON?

The FLORAPULSE stem water potential sensor has been validated on a wide variety of woody crops in commercial plots, such as: ALMOND, VINEYARD, PISTACHIO, ORANGE, PLUM, APPLE, PEAR, PEACH, APRICOT, CHERRY, OLIVE, MANGO, etc.
