It is available in both splash-proof and waterproof, submersible versions. This upgraded model still offers the same fluorescence parameters and protocols: Ft, QY, OJIP, NPQ, and Light Curve. Its construction is designed for long-term, unattended monitoring of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in indoor or outdoor experiments, even in challenging environments like polar regions or underwater. An external battery ensures continuous measurement over months or even years.

Monitoring Pen
The Monitoring Pen is an upgraded version of the popular FluorPen, featuring a rugged and durable metal housing specifically designed for demanding field and underwater applications. Available in both the splash-proof MP 100-E and the waterproof MP 100-A submersible versions, this upgraded model provides the same reliable fluorescence parameters and protocols: OJIP, ChlF fast induction kinetics, and a variety of ChlF PAM (pulse amplitude modulation) protocols such as Ft, QY, NPQ, and light curve. Its rugged construction ensures that it can withstand long-term unattended monitoring of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in both indoor and outdoor experiments, even in extreme environments such as polar regions and underwater settings.

The Monitoring Pen's external battery supports measurements for months or even years. It features programmable stand-alone operation with an auto-on feature, allowing for extended, autonomous battery-powered use. Data is stored sequentially in the device's internal memory and can be transferred to a PC via USB. The comprehensive FluorPen 1.1 software facilitates data transfer and offers numerous functions for presenting data in tables and graphs.

An external battery pack is essential for a functional monitoring setup. The monitoring pen itself lacks an internal battery and relies solely on a small backup battery to maintain system settings and the real-time clock (RTC).

The standard battery pack, which is rechargeable, is compatible with all versions of the MP. For extreme conditions ranging from -40 to +60 degrees Celsius, the Enhanced Temperature Range Battery Pack is available. This pack contains special non-rechargeable lithium batteries that must be replaced once they are discharged.

MONITORING PEN MEASUREMENTS
Ft - Continuous fluorescence yield in non-actinic light. Ft is equivalent to F0 if the leaf sample is dark-adapted.
QY - Photosystem II quantum yield. QY is equivalent to Fv/Fm in dark-adapted samples and Fv'/Fm' in light-adapted samples.

OJIP - Chlorophyll fluorescence induction kinetics. OJIP curves allow observation of the main changes that occur during exposure of plants to high irradiance.
NPQ - Non-photochemical quenching. The NPQ protocol is the most widely used measurement approach to quantify photochemical and non-photochemical quenching. Measurement should be performed with a dark-adapted sample.
Light curve (QY) - Quantum yield of photosystem II estimated from fluorescence measured sequentially at several different light levels.

Versions
Monitoring Pen MP 100-E
The Mp 100 E is specifically designed for field conditions, with a durable metal housing that is dust and splash proof. Equipped with a thread for tripod attachment, it is ideal for stand-alone use in harsh environments. When combined with the temperature-enhanced battery pack, it becomes the perfect solution for extreme field conditions, such as monitoring in polar regions. The device can be operated manually using two buttons or automatically via the FluorPen software. Final configuration should be discussed before placing an order.

Monitoring Pen MP 100-A
The MP 100-A is the submersible and waterproof version of the Monitoring Pen, designed for underwater measurement of fluorescence parameters. Final configuration should always be discussed with PSI before ordering. This device comes in two versions:
Monitoring Pen MP 100-A/A Suitable for water depths up to 2 meters, this version is equipped with two buttons for direct operation by the user, even underwater. It can also be controlled remotely via the FluorPen software.
Monitoring Pen MP 100-A/B Designed for use in deeper waters, up to 10 meters, this version has no buttons. It is intended for remote or automatic measurements, controlled by pre-programmed commands from a PC located on shore. This device is normally fixed in a static position underwater.
